A tragic single-vehicle crash claimed the life of 36-year-old Victoria L. Bailey, a Schuylkill County woman, late Friday night along Clamtown Road, according to Pennsylvania State Police. The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 p.m. on April 3, 2026, along Route 443 (Clamtown Road) just west of its intersection with SR 309 (West Penn Pike) in Walker Township.
Authorities reported that the vehicle, a 1990 Eagle, was being driven eastbound by Bailey when it failed to properly negotiate a left-hand curve. The car reportedly crossed into the westbound lane momentarily before returning to the eastbound lane, ultimately striking a utility pole off the roadway.
Bailey sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Police noted that she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
A passenger in the vehicle, 37-year-old Keith R. Bailey, also of Tamaqua, sustained suspected serious injuries. He was transported by ambulance to St. Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem for treatment. No further details regarding his condition have been released.
The Pennsylvania State Police reported that the roadway was dry at the time of the crash, indicating that weather conditions were not a contributing factor. The vehicle involved suffered disabling front-end damage and was subsequently towed from the scene.
Emergency response teams from multiple local agencies assisted at the scene, including Walker Township Fire Company, Tamaqua Fire Company, Tamaqua Fire Police, West Penn Township Police, Lehighton EMS, Penn Mahoning EMS, and Tamaqua EMS. Their efforts ensured prompt medical care for the injured passenger and the safe management of the accident site.
The crash remains under investigation by Pennsylvania State Police in Frackville, who continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision, including potential factors contributing to Bailey’s failure to navigate the curve safely.
Authorities are reminding motorists to exercise caution on Route 443, particularly on curves where speed and attention are critical, and to always wear seatbelts to reduce the risk of fatal injuries in the event of a crash.
This incident marks a somber reminder of the dangers of single-vehicle accidents and the importance of roadway safety. Residents in Walker Township and surrounding communities are urged to stay vigilant and drive responsibly.
