Authorities have confirmed the identity of the man who lost his life in a devastating multi-vehicle crash on U.S. 87 North in Victoria, Texas, as 25-year-old Zachary Banda. His tragic passing followed a violent collision involving a semi-truck and two passenger vehicles that unfolded in the late afternoon hours on Saturday, leaving a community mourning and several others injured.
According to officials, the fatal crash occurred around 4:35 p.m. in the 8000 block of U.S. 87 North and involved two passenger vehicles—a Ford F-150 and a Nissan Altima—as well as a semi-truck traveling in the opposite direction. Preliminary findings from investigators with the Victoria Police Department indicate that the semi-truck was traveling southbound when it struck multiple vehicles traveling northbound.
Authorities stated that the Ford F-150 was driven by Zachary Banda, who had a 24-year-old passenger with him at the time. The impact also involved a Nissan Altima carrying two occupants, aged 21 and 22. Officials confirmed that all passenger vehicles were heading northbound when the collision occurred, though the exact sequence of events is still under active investigation.
Emergency responders rushed to the scene within minutes. Victims were quickly assessed, and three individuals were transported to area hospitals for treatment—some via private vehicles and others by Victoria EMS. Despite lifesaving efforts, Zachary Banda was tragically pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of his injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was not reported injured in the crash.
Following the collision, northbound traffic on U.S. 87 was diverted onto Tropical Drive and Nursery Drive as authorities worked to clear the scene and begin their investigation.
