With profound sorrow and heavy hearts, we remember the lives of 33-year-old Ashley Hagood, her beloved son Bryant Ballew, 13, and her young daughter Bryleigh Pledger, 7, who tragically lost their lives in a devastating two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Alabama Highway 157 and Alabama Highway 24 in Lawrence County.
On that heartbreaking day, Ashley was traveling in a Chevy Suburban with her four children when their vehicle was struck on the side by a Ford F-150. The impact of the collision forever changed the lives of a family and an entire community. Bryant and Bryleigh were pronounced dead at the scene, while Ashley was rushed to the hospital, where she sadly succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.
Ashley Hagood was known as a loving, devoted mother whose world revolved around her children. She was described by those who knew her as a bright light—someone who carried warmth, strength, and unconditional love into every space she entered. Her greatest pride and joy were her children, and she dedicated her life to nurturing and protecting them.
Bryant Ballew, full of life and promise at just 13 years old, was a young boy with a bright future ahead of him. He was cherished by friends, loved by family, and remembered for his energy, kindness, and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence could light up a room, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him.
Little Bryleigh Pledger, only 7 years old, was a beautiful soul taken far too soon. Innocent, sweet, and full of life, she brought smiles and laughter wherever she went. Her gentle spirit and loving heart will forever remain in the memories of those blessed to know her.
Two other children in the vehicle, Bentley Pledger, 10, and Brynleigh Pledger, 7, survived the crash but were critically injured and transported to Children’s of Birmingham, where they continue to fight and recover. Their strength in the face of such tragedy is nothing short of remarkable, and they remain in the thoughts and prayers of many.
In the wake of this unimaginable loss, the community has come together to grieve, support, and uplift one another. Tributes have poured in, honoring Ashley as an incredible mother and celebrating the beautiful lives of Bryant and Bryleigh. Their memories will live on in the hearts of family, friends, and all who were touched by their love.
There are no words that can truly ease the pain of such a devastating loss. A mother and her children—taken in an instant—leave behind a silence that cannot be filled. But in that silence, there is also love, remembrance, and the enduring legacy of a family bond that will never be broken.
As the investigation into the crash continues and the intersection has since reopened, the grief remains fresh for those left behind. May Ashley, Bryant, and Bryleigh rest in eternal peace, and may their loved ones find strength, comfort, and healing in the days ahead.
Forever loved. Forever remembered.
