BELZONI, Miss. — Makayla Adams has been identified by her family as the victim who tragically lost her life following a senseless act of violence late on the night of April 11, 2026, leaving a community in mourning and searching for answers.
According to a press release issued on April 12, deputies with the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from the Belzoni Police Department, responded to multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire in the area of Silver City Road in Belzoni. The calls, which came in late Saturday night, described a chaotic and frightening scene as shots rang out, prompting an urgent law enforcement response.
When authorities arrived, they discovered multiple individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. In total, at least five people were injured in the incident. Tragically, Makayla Adams was pronounced deceased at the scene due to her injuries.
Her identification by family members has brought heartbreaking confirmation to loved ones now grappling with an unimaginable loss. Makayla Adams is remembered as more than a victim — she was a cherished daughter, friend, and member of the community whose life held meaning and promise.
Emergency responders worked quickly to assist the injured and secure the scene, while investigators began the process of determining what led to the shooting. At this time, officials have not released information regarding a suspect or motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.
