MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — The community is mourning the tragic loss of 24-year-old James Roy Smith III of Morgantown, who died in a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday afternoon on Interstate 68.
According to West Virginia State Police, the deadly incident occurred around 4:20 p.m. as Smith was traveling westbound on I-68 near the 13-mile marker. Troopers say he lost control of his motorcycle for reasons that remain under investigation, resulting in a crash that proved fatal.
Emergency responders were called to the scene, but despite efforts to assist, Smith was pronounced dead at the location of the crash. Authorities confirmed that no other vehicles were involved in the incident.
