A devastating tragedy has left a community in mourning in Atlanta, Georgia, where 17-year-old Rashawn Mackey lost his life in a senseless act of violence while simply trying to work and move forward in life.
According to police, officers responded around 2:13 a.m. to a gas station on Metropolitan Parkway SW after receiving reports of a person shot. When they arrived, they found Rashawn suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the response of emergency personnel, he sadly did not survive.
Investigators say Rashawn had been out making deliveries for Uber Eats that night, working late hours in an effort to earn income. During one of his stops at the gas station, he encountered a man inside the store who appeared upset. What should have been an ordinary moment quickly turned tragic as the situation escalated into a confrontation that ended in gunfire.
Authorities believe Rashawn and the suspect did not know each other, making the incident even more heartbreaking.
