45-Year-Old Julio Ricardo Munoz Killed in Tragic Three-Vehicle Crash on Route 1 in Bensalem Township

A tragic early-morning crash in Bensalem Township has claimed the life of 45-year-old Julio Ricardo Munoz of Philadelphia, following a devastating chain-reaction collision involving three vehicles along southbound Route 1.

According to Bensalem Township Police, the incident occurred at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Officers, along with members of the Bensalem Volunteer Fire Department and EMS personnel, responded to the scene near Rockhill Drive after receiving reports of a serious multi-vehicle crash.

Preliminary findings indicate that a 2007 Honda Fit, driven by Julio Ricardo Munoz, had been experiencing mechanical issues prior to the crash. The vehicle came to a stop in the #2 southbound lane of Route 1. At some point after stopping, Munoz exited the vehicle and was outside on the roadway.

While he was outside, an approaching 2022 Kia Seltos struck the disabled Honda. The force of the impact caused the Honda to move and strike Munoz, who was still outside the vehicle. Moments later, the Honda was struck again by a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, compounding the severity of the incident.

Emergency responders arrived quickly and assessed the scene. Tragically, Julio Ricardo Munoz sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the collision.

Authorities confirmed that the Honda Fit also had a front-seat passenger at the time of the incident. That individual sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Jefferson-Torresdale Hospital for treatment.

Investigators have stated that, at this time, drugs and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. The incident remains under active investigation as officials work to fully reconstruct the sequence of events and determine all contributing circumstances.

The crash caused significant disruption along southbound Route 1 during the early morning hours as emergency crews worked the scene and cleared the roadway.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers motorists face when vehicles become disabled on busy highways. Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise extreme caution and, when possible, move vehicles out of travel lanes to safer locations.

As the investigation continues, the loss of Julio Ricardo Munoz leaves family, friends, and the Philadelphia community mourning a life taken far too suddenly.
