DANVILLE, Va. — A tragic accident in Danville has claimed the life of 40-year-old Nicolas Paul Samuels of Keeling, involving Daniel Rashunn Dickerson, 25, of Danville, following a collision Monday afternoon on South Boston Road that is now under active investigation by authorities.
According to the Danville Police Department, the crash occurred at approximately 12:45 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Boston Road, near the Danville Regional Airport. Officers responded to reports of a serious collision involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle.
Investigators say Samuels was traveling westbound on a 2012 Harley-Davidson Street Glide when a 2022 Nissan Kicks, driven by Dickerson, crossed into the motorcycle’s path, resulting in a violent crash.
Emergency crews arrived quickly and transported Samuels from the scene for medical treatment. Despite those efforts, he later died from the injuries he sustained in the collision.
Dickerson was also taken from the scene to receive medical attention. Authorities have not released details regarding his condition at this time.
The crash prompted the temporary closure of westbound lanes of South Boston Road for approximately three hours as investigators worked to process the scene and gather evidence. Traffic in the area was significantly impacted during that time.
The Danville Police Department confirmed that charges are pending as the investigation continues. Officials are working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the crash.
Public Works and the Danville Fire Department assisted with traffic control, while the Virginia State Police are also aiding in the ongoing investigation.
The sudden loss of Nicolas Paul Samuels has left family, friends, and the community grieving as they come to terms with the tragic outcome of what began as a routine afternoon.
