A tragic crash on the New York State Thruway has claimed the life of 56-year-old Scott Berberian of Syracuse, New York, and led to criminal charges against 67-year-old Patrick Hastings of Churchville, as authorities continue to investigate the deadly two-vehicle collision in the town of Stafford, Genesee County.
According to New York State Police, the crash occurred on Interstate 90 in the eastbound lanes during the early morning hours. Investigators say Patrick Hastings was operating a vehicle when he struck a pickup truck from behind. The impact of the collision was severe, causing the driver of the pickup truck, Scott Berberian, to be ejected from the vehicle. Tragically, Berberian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but despite their efforts, there was nothing that could be done to save the victim. The incident has left a deep sense of loss for Berberian’s family, friends, and community in Syracuse, where he was known and loved.
As a result of the crash, all eastbound lanes of the Thruway were shut down for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the scene.
