A quiet Saturday afternoon in Muskogee County turned into a heartbreaking tragedy, leaving a family shattered and a community searching for answers after 28-year-old Jesse McQueen of Tahlequah was fatally shot, his sister Jasmine McQueen critically injured, and 35-year-old Christopher “BIG Chris” Jacobs of Taft, Oklahoma later taken into custody in connection with the violence. What began as an ordinary day near 4 Mile Road and Highway 62, just east of Ft. Gibson, quickly descended into chaos when gunfire erupted, forever changing the lives of those involved.
At the center of this devastating incident were Jesse McQueen and his sister, Jasmine McQueen. The siblings found themselves caught in a sudden and violent attack when, for reasons still unknown, the suspect opened fire on Jesse and his vehicle.
In those terrifying moments, Jesse did what many would instinctively do in a desperate attempt to survive and protect someone he loved. Despite being struck multiple times by gunfire, he managed to put his vehicle in gear and accelerate, trying to escape the danger and save his sister. Tragically, in the chaos and urgency of the moment, the vehicle collided with another car near a nearby convenience store.
First responders arrived to a scene marked by confusion, fear, and urgency. Jesse and Jasmine were both rushed to a hospital in Tulsa, where medical teams fought to save their lives. Despite their efforts, Jesse succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a profound void in the lives of those who knew and loved him. Jasmine, critically injured in the crash, remains hospitalized but is now stable and expected to undergo surgery as she continues her fight to recover.
Meanwhile, the suspect fled the scene, but his attempt to escape justice was short-lived. A few hours later, troopers with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol located and apprehended him in Atoka County. He has since been taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held in the Muskogee County Jail.
Authorities with the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office have launched an active investigation into the shooting and are expected to provide further updates. They are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward.
But beyond the investigation and legal proceedings lies a grieving family trying to make sense of an unimaginable loss.
Jesse McQueen was more than just a victim of violence—he was a son, a father, a brother, an uncle, and a friend. His father, Michael McQueen, a well-known figure who helps keep the Tahlequah community informed through local news updates, shared heartfelt words about his son.
Jesse was one of several siblings, with three older brothers, one younger brother, and a beloved younger sister. He was known for his selflessness—someone who would go out of his way to help family, friends, and even strangers whenever the need arose. He had a deep passion for sports, especially football and basketball, and could talk about them endlessly with enthusiasm and knowledge.
More importantly, Jesse cherished his family. He loved spending time with his siblings, nieces, and nephews, and he absolutely adored his children. His presence brought warmth, laughter, and strength to those around him. His absence now leaves an irreplaceable gap that words can hardly capture.
As the McQueen family mourns the loss of Jesse while standing by Jasmine’s side during her recovery, they are faced with both grief and uncertainty. Questions linger about why this happened, and the pain of losing a loved one is compounded by the suddenness and violence of it all.
This tragedy has deeply impacted not only the McQueen family but also the wider community that knew and respected them. Friends, neighbors, and supporters are coming together in solidarity, offering prayers, condolences, and support during this incredibly difficult time.
We grieve alongside the McQueen family—not only as members of the community but as friends and as parents who understand the depth of such a loss.
