BOONEVILLE, Ark. — The Booneville and Logan County community is mourning the tragic passing of Gary Blaylock, 45, who died following an officer-involved shooting after a police pursuit on State Highway 23 Monday morning.
According to the Arkansas State Police (ASP), the incident began around 10:15 a.m. when a Booneville Police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a pickup truck traveling through the area. Officials say the driver did not stop, leading to a pursuit along the highway.
Authorities report that the pursuit continued until officers carried out a rolling block maneuver, bringing the vehicle to a stop. Investigators say that once the truck was halted, Blaylock exited the vehicle while allegedly armed with a firearm.
At that moment, both a Booneville police officer and an Arkansas State Police trooper discharged their service weapons, striking Blaylock. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but he was pronounced dead on-site.
No officers or bystanders were reported injured during the incident.
As with all officer-involved shootings, Arkansas State Police confirmed that a full investigation is underway. Once completed, the case file will be submitted to the Logan County Prosecutor’s Office, which will determine whether the use of deadly force was justified under state law.
