WALDORF, MARYLAND — It is with deep sadness that we announce the tragic loss of Scott Beland, 64, of White Plains, Maryland, who was killed in a fatal hit-and-run accident on the evening of Friday, April 3rd, 2026. Scott was a beloved member of his community and will be remembered for his kind heart and generous spirit.
At approximately 7:49 p.m., Troopers from the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack, along with deputies from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, responded to Maryland Route 228 (Berry Road) at Bunker Hill Road for a report of a serious motor vehicle collision. Due to the nature of the crash, the Maryland State Police CRASH Team was called in to investigate the incident.
The preliminary investigation reveals that Scott was riding his 2018 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Maryland Route 228, making a left turn onto Bunker Hill Road on a steady green light when the collision occurred. A 2008 Infiniti G35, which had been traveling eastbound, failed to obey a red traffic signal and entered the intersection. The Infiniti collided with Scott’s motorcycle, throwing him off the bike. After the crash, the unknown driver of the Infiniti lost control, hit a metal guardrail, and fled the scene, making a left turn onto Sharpersville Road before abandoning the vehicle.
Scott Beland was pronounced deceased at the scene. His sudden and senseless passing has left his family, friends, and the local community devastated.
