A heartbreaking tragedy has left multiple families and communities grieving following a devastating crash on April 5, 2026. Gavyn Orlando, Hunter Cooper, and Anthony Dalley were all involved in a tragic incident that turned an ordinary Sunday afternoon into one filled with loss, pain, and unanswered questions along a rural roadway in Wells County, Indiana.
At approximately 2:47 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to the area of County Road 200 West near County Road 1200 South after reports of a serious crash. According to authorities, 21-year-old Hunter Cooper of Hartford City was traveling northbound in a white 2018 BMW at a high rate of speed along Blackford County Road 600 East. As the vehicle crossed into Wells County, where the roadway becomes County Road 200 West, tragedy struck.
Investigators say the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to cross the center line. In a violent sequence of events, the car collided passenger-side first with a utility pole, snapping it in half from the force of the impact. The vehicle then overturned and rolled into a nearby field, leaving a devastating scene in its wake.
Hunter Cooper sustained injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Another passenger, 20-year-old Anthony Dalley of Montpelier, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash and also rushed to the hospital with injuries.
Tragically, 19-year-old Gavyn Orlando of Hartford City did not survive. He was pronounced deceased at the scene, leaving behind grieving loved ones, friends, and a community struggling to process such a sudden and profound loss.
First responders from multiple agencies worked tirelessly at the scene, including the Wells County Sheriff’s Office, Wells County EMS, Liberty Center Fire and Rescue, Chester Fire, Indiana State Police, the Wells County Coroner’s Office, and the Bluffton 911 Center. Their coordinated efforts ensured that the injured were cared for and the scene was secured during a very difficult and emotional response.
As the investigation remains ongoing, authorities continue working to determine all contributing factors surrounding the crash.
Today, the focus turns to remembering Gavyn Orlando — a young life taken far too soon. He is remembered not for the tragic way he passed, but for the moments he shared, the laughter he brought, and the impact he made on those around him. His loss is deeply felt across the community, and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
