A devastating tragedy has left a Kentucky community grieving after a late-night crash claimed the life of a young teenager in Boone County. Zachary Snyder, 16, of Burlington, was among four teens involved in a single-vehicle crash that occurred Sunday night in Hebron.
According to the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 10:34 p.m. on Bullittsville Road. Zachary was riding in the front passenger seat of a 2015 Honda Accord when the vehicle, driven by a 17-year-old, approached a sharp right-hand curve.
Investigators say the driver failed to navigate the curve, causing the vehicle to cross the center line. In an attempt to regain control, the driver overcorrected, sending the car off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle then struck several trees before overturning in a violent sequence of events that ended in tragedy.
During the crash, Zachary was ejected from the vehicle and became trapped underneath it. Despite the swift response of emergency crews, he was tragically pronounced deceased at the scene. His sudden passing has left family, friends, classmates, and the entire community in deep sorrow.
The driver and two backseat passengers, ages 17 and 18, were able to escape the overturned vehicle on their own. They were transported to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. While they are expected to recover physically, the emotional weight of the incident is certain to remain with them.
Authorities believe speed played a significant role in the crash. Deputies also reported that neither the driver nor Zachary were wearing seatbelts at the time, a detail that serves as a painful reminder of the importance of roadway safety.
Bullittsville Road was closed for several hours as investigators worked to process the scene and gather evidence. The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Accident Reconstruction Team continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Today, Zachary Snyder is remembered for the life he lived in his 16 years — a life filled with promise, youth, and potential. Though his time was tragically cut short, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
As the community mourns this unimaginable loss, thoughts and prayers remain with Zachary’s family and friends, as well as the other teens involved, as they begin the difficult journey of healing.
